THE IMPORTANCE OF EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT

August 29, 2017

Any doubts about the importance of employee engagement can and should be easily refuted simply by considering the rising intensity of retail competition commerce.

The recent report from CCRRC North America NACS – “People Power for C-Stores” – makes it clear that engaged employees add benefits to sales, profits and the customer experience. And the newest report from the Council serving the large store channel (CCRRC North America) makes it clear that all those points loom larger today than ever.

The report, called “Surviving the Brave New World of Food Retailing,” details the incredible changes underway in the marketplace and the growing importance of customer experience as a weapon for survival. That study details how traditional retail strengths like convenience and location are being overturned by the simplicity and ease provided by electronic shopping and other emerging technologies.

In addition to outlining the challenges, the report includes a diagnostic questionnaire that companies can use to assess the challenges they face and their readiness to compete in this new environment. While it was created for supermarkets, it can certainly bring value to convenience retailers looking to remain relevant in today’s retail environment.

Convenience stores and supermarkets certainly face different challenges in this new age, but the shifting reality of retail impacts them both. Both studies — on retail relevance and employee engagement in c-stores — can be downloaded for free at www.ccrrc.org.
